Thing 22

I went to ListenNJ. It was easy to find titles that I liked and I checked out Tom Sawyer (but didn't download the book). I also put myself on the waiting list for The Appeal. There were 36 other people on the list. I do not think this is something I would use. I like the idea of audio books to take on travel, but don't think I would sit in front of my computer to listen to a book.

Thing 9

Went back and tried using Syndic8 and Topix. Syndic8 was not easy to use and confusing to figure out and I couldn't get any feeds. Topix was good for "feeding the local news to my bloglines account. Technorati was the easiest to use for me because I could click on other links more easily and the overall appearance was more appealing.

Thing 23

I have not finished Thing 22 yet, but trying to get things done before the deadline I have skipped to 23. The reason I cannot do 22 right now is that I cannot get to use the PC. This is a major problem in our branch where we only have one PC plus. I think the idea of the Web challenge is a good one, but I felt I was being drug along and not really learning. I guess I would rather concentrate on one or two things and learn them well. Finding enough time to play around with each item is difficult. I did like learning about all the things that can be done with the computer but felt lost when many of the steps were not covered and if it weren't for my co-workers I do not think I could have made my way through it. I did like Library Thing and a few of the other things and hopefully I'll be able to use them in the future.

Thing 21

Not overly fond of this site. I am not interested in listening to things on line.

Thing 20

Love Youtube. I watched the evolution of dance and thought it was so funny. I had seen things from youtube that people emailed me, but never went to their site. Ann

Thing 19

I looked at eventful.com. I thought that was a great idea. Being able to see what is going on in your area is helpful because there is no radio or tv ads for a lot of these things. Ann

Thing 18

Google docs seems like a really good idea (similar to wiki), but haven't used it. Ann

Thing 6

Pretty cake. Thing 6 is done!

Thing 5

Pretty horsey. Thing 5 is done!

Sandbox - thing 17

Another interesting feature, but too many details on how to get from Point A to Point B were missing and if I didn't have a lot of help I never could have figured out how to finish the task. I am not sure how this would be used in the library. I don't feel familiar enough with it to figure out how to really use it.

Wikis

I thought the tutorial on wikis was very interesting. I can see where it would be very useful for groups and committees. I went on the Ocean County site and thought it was very informational, but the history tab we looked at was confusing and not particularly inviting. There was nothing on the discussion tab. I am not sure how the general library population would use it in regard to the library.

Library 2.0

I think having information at your fingertips is a great idea. There is a lack of space in most libraries to store large numbers of books, so being able to find things easily on the computer is wonderful. However there are a lot of people who cannot or will not use the internet. I hope we aren't going to just forget about them. I personally do not like sitting and reading off the computer for any length of time. It is uncomfortable for my neck and eyes. I don't suppose we have an answer for that yet???

Technorati

I found technorati interesting and I did like looking up blogs on Peruvian horses. But the blogs I found weren't strictly on the subject. I think it would be interesting to read more blogs if I had the time.

Del.icio.us

This seems to be a really neat tool. I find it a little daunting, but might use it if I were doing research. I also think that the more you used it the easier it would be.

Net Library & Worldcat

Tried using both sites. Net Library didn't answer my searches with reasonable titles. The first time I used World cat the exact title I was looking for came up.

Library Thing: Actually like this feature. It doesn't seem too complicated and something I might use. Just learning small things like this are useful. However I am not a book discussion person so do not feel the need to air my opinions or hear others' opinions on books I have read.

Too Much Technology at One Time

I have been asked to share some thoughts on technology. I used to really like technology, but things have gotten so complicated and confusing that I shy away from it now. This Web things challenge is too much at one time and although I am getting through it with a lot of help from co-workers I am not retaining much and I am definitely not finding it fun. I think things like blogging should be learned at a less stressful pace and not everything at one time. Just my thoughts.

Thing 9

The RSS feeds was very confusing until a coworker showed me how. After adding 13 feeds I have the method down pat, but still don't feel like I know what I am doing.

Hello to Blog World

Hello out there. My strongest learning habit is that I am very goal oriented. My worst learning habit is technology.
